Whether you have a binder of favorites or a shelf of sealed boxes, good storage protects your collection’s condition and value. Here is how to store Pokémon cards the right way.
Sleeve Your Valuable Cards
Put any card you care about in a soft penny sleeve as soon as you pull it. Sleeves protect against scratches, fingerprints, and edge wear.
Use Toploaders for Your Best Pulls
For ultra rares, illustration rares, and secret rares, slide the sleeved card into a rigid toploader. This keeps the card flat and protects it from bending.
Choose a Side Loading Binder
Binders are great for sets and favorites. Pick a binder with side loading pockets so cards do not slide out, and avoid ring binders, which can dent cards near the rings. Binder collections are a fun way to start.
Store Bulk in Card Boxes
Keep common and uncommon cards upright in a cardboard or plastic storage box sized for trading cards, sorted by set or type.
Keep Sealed Product in Shrink Wrap
Leave booster boxes, Elite Trainer Boxes, and collection boxes in their original shrink wrap. Store them flat or upright on a shelf, not stacked under heavy weight, so corners stay sharp.
Control Heat, Light, and Humidity
Store cards in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. Heat and humidity can warp cards and wrap, and sunlight fades artwork. Avoid basements and attics.
