Special Illustration Rare: What It Means
Special Illustration Rares are among the highest-tier pull rarities in modern Pokemon TCG sets. They are printed beyond the numbered set total, in this case at 285 out of a base set of 217 cards, which is a reliable indicator of SIR status. The artwork style on SIR cards typically features a full or near-full bleed illustration with more environmental and character detail than a standard or even full-art rare.
For collectors, the holofoil finish on a Special Illustration Rare adds another layer of visual appeal, with the foil layer interacting with the detailed illustration in a way that differs from standard holo cards. This combination of SIR rarity and holofoil finish is a consistent driver of collector demand across Ascended Heroes singles.
Condition and Packaging
Singles at Pokemon District are handled with collector-grade care. When you buy a Mega Scrafty ex 285/217 single, the card is stored and shipped in a protective sleeve and rigid card holder to prevent surface damage, edge wear, and corner dings in transit.
If you are purchasing for grading purposes, condition is everything. Here is a quick reference for the most common condition grades relevant to this card:
- Near Mint (NM): No visible play wear, clean edges and corners, surface free of scratches. Ideal for PSA, BGS, or CGC submission.
- Lightly Played (LP): Minor surface wear or very light edge scuffs, still a strong candidate for mid-tier graded results.
- Moderately Played (MP): Visible wear on edges or surface. Typically purchased for gameplay rather than grading.
Check the listing condition label before purchase. If you have a specific condition requirement for a grading submission, contact us before ordering.
Why Collectors Want This Card
The Mega Scrafty ex from Ascended Heroes ticks several boxes that drive collector interest in a single card:
- The SIR rarity means lower print distribution compared to standard or full-art rares in the same set.
- The 285/217 numbering is an immediate visual signal to other collectors that this is a premium pull.
- Scrafty has a dedicated fanbase within the Pokemon community, and Mega Evolution treatments tend to attract both nostalgic collectors and competitive players.
- Holofoil SIRs photograph well, making them popular inclusions in binder collections and display cases.
- Ascended Heroes SIRs as a group have maintained consistent collector attention since the set released.
Whether you are completing the Ascended Heroes SIR subset, building a Scrafty collection, or picking up a copy in raw form ahead of a grading submission, this card is a logical target.
