Starter Deck 23 Card Breakdown
The starter deck 23 red shanks is centred on a Red colour identity, meaning the deck leans into aggressive, high-tempo strategies that fans of Shanks will find completely on theme. The Leader card defines the play style of the whole deck, and Shanks as a Leader brings a commanding presence to the board.
The 51-card deck is fully constructed, meaning every card in the list has been selected to work together. The 10 DON!! cards serve as the energy system of the One Piece Card Game, allowing you to power up your Leader or attach resources to your characters. Learning how to manage your DON!! cards efficiently is one of the core skills the game builds, and this deck is an excellent environment to practice that.
The included play sheet maps out the field layout and turn structure so new players are never left guessing how to set up.
Why Play Red Shanks?
The one piece card game shanks starter deck is a natural starting point for fans of the Red Hair Pirates and for players who enjoy a forward-pressing, threat-heavy game plan. Shanks is a character who commands respect in the source material, and that identity carries into the card game through the Red colour’s characteristic aggression and power scaling.
This deck is a strong choice for:
- New players who want a complete, balanced introduction to the One Piece Card Game
- Collectors who want the Shanks Leader card as a cornerstone of a future custom build
- Existing players looking to explore the Red colour archetype
- Fans of Shanks and the Red Hair Pirates who want a themed, lore-consistent experience
The pre-constructed format means you do not need to build from scratch. Open the box, set up using the play sheet, and you are ready to play your first game.
The OP-11 Booster Pack
One of the standout features of the st-23 red shanks deck compared to earlier starter releases is the bundled OP-11 booster pack. Booster packs from current sets introduce cards from the latest expansions, which means the contents can complement your new deck or give you cards to trade and use in other builds.
If you are building a broader One Piece TCG collection, pairing this starter with additional booster products is a natural next step. Check out the One Piece TCG Double Pack Set Vol.7 DP-07 for more pack-based expansion options from the same game system.
How to Upgrade the Deck
The red shanks starter deck one piece card game is built to be playable immediately, but it is also a strong foundation for customisation. Once you are comfortable with the base deck, you can explore the following directions:
- Add cards from OP-11 packs to introduce new synergies with the existing Red strategy
- Increase key character counts to improve consistency across your draws
- Swap in higher-rarity Red cards pulled from booster sets to raise the ceiling of the deck’s power
- Protect your collection with card sleeves and a playmat designed for the One Piece Card Game
For fans of Shanks specifically, the One Piece TCG Playmat and Storage Box Set Shanks pairs perfectly with this deck, giving you a thematically consistent play surface and storage solution in one.
If you want to compare how the Red Shanks play style differs from other starters, the One Piece TCG Yamato Starter Deck ST-09 offers a look at a different colour identity and Leader archetype within the same game system.
About the One Piece Card Game
The One Piece Card Game is published by Bandai and is based on the globally recognised One Piece manga and anime franchise. The game uses a Leader and character card system where players battle to reduce their opponent’s life cards to zero. DON!! cards form the energy backbone of each turn, giving the game a distinctive rhythm that rewards planning and tempo management.
Starter decks like the bandai one piece starter deck st-23 are the official recommended entry point for the game, providing a balanced and legal deck configuration right out of the packaging.
